waking up in an empty space

with empty stomachs

Hunger presents a challenge.

We can't recall

the day we ate a proper meal

Sometimes we were fortunate to have it.

Living everywhere made us stronger.

We live with strangers every day.

Whoever discovers us

Whoever approaches us with a smile

We share whatever food we obtain.

We are street friends.

We became relatives.

We call each other cousins.

We've all got nowhere to go.

We live everywhere.

We sleep anywhere.

We're all over the city.

Hustling for what to eat

However, we continue to get

Something to eat.

We are somehow surviving.

We are still alive.

with our hunger.

Until, of course, they're not. This is so distressing.

  • This was so sad. Unfortunately it is the reality for so many. Loved your poem!
