Rage, rage against the dying of the night
It all happened so fast. From the Doctor telling me there was no 'Get out', 'Hail Mary' or even a 'Wild Card' to the realisation I would not see 2025. No, no smart shuffle could cheat the reaper's reap this time. I wouldn't celebrate 25 years of wonderful marriage to my soul mate, Jenny. To say it was a shit card to deal with was putting it lightly.

FRIENDS AND LOVE

The Block Mayor
Like every warm day, Terrence is finishing this day on his L-shaped porch, sipping whisky from a dented flask. Cars pass by slowly, and he watches young women pushing babies in strollers; he hears the neighbors’ arguments and knows which have a regular income and those who are unemployed. Terrence is the self-appointed block mayor, laying judgment on his fellow folk.

The Blackwater Bridge wasn't exactly a place known for romance. Sure, it had a certain brooding charm, all rusted metal and looming over the inky river, but most folks crossed it with a quickened pace and a silent prayer they wouldn't get mugged. Not me, though. I came for Ezra.

It was a secret place, a quarter acre of Eden abandoned and erased from the mind of mankind the instant the original sin was committed, and I had stumbled upon it quite by accident.

Sarah wasn't looking for love. Not really. She was content with her life - blasting music in her beat-up Honda Civic, weekend shifts at the local bookstore, and a cat named Mittens who judged her every move. But then came Kevin, the new delivery guy at the bookstore.

It was a beautiful sunny day in December in Pakistan. I was sitting beside her in the corridor of our university. We were having our tea when her beautiful lips started moving to say something beautiful. I prepared myself for that since I always listen to her words with the same attention. Her words began to make a pattern and went as, "There are a few people out there who actually do love. People in this modern time do not have urge to spend their lifetime with anyone. You know Nasir, there are 99% people who are actually faking in love and only 1% are there who actually do love, A true and pure love and those are the people who know how to take care of the other person and how to remain loyal with anyone." I asked her, "Are you among the 99% or 1%." I had curiosity to know though I had an idea how much she loved me. But she startled me by saying, "I won't tell a lie, I am among the 99%. Why would I boast on anything that I don't have." Her words made me numb though I knew that she is still telling a lie. Then I asked her," What about me?" She said," You are among the 1% people who truly love." I was happy to know that but I was confused that who could she be among the 99% as she is in love with me heart and soul. Now.................... Its been almost a year I haven't talked to her. I haven't seen her. She has gone from my life for good. She cleared my confusion a year ago that how she could be among the 99%. Now, I have learnt where to put efforts and where not to. I have learnt to get lessons from past and to look for new experiences. (An event from the life of a bookseller)

They meddled with the front gate. Followed its trail the long uneven path three hectares in, along the outskirts of the farmer's ripening fields.

My love just caught me off guard like a shabby monsoon storm does. Such an imaginary moment wasn’t as dramatic as in a movie, I just felt comfortable and natural.
