Ripley and the Oak
It was another brilliant morning in the woods of Hearthland where the girl known as Ripley woke. Dreary eyed, she stumbled from her messy bed shared with her brother, Laos, and two twin sisters, Ella and Wren. The morning was bright as viewed by the clearing in which their home resided among the trees. Work was to be done, yet the children were young and not all too interested in chores as their curiosity could often lead to the failure of a productive day.

Lavender Tea
The scent of lavender tea and old books clung to Elias like a second skin. Every Tuesday, Nora found herself drawn to it, drawn to him, amidst the dusty shelves of the second-hand bookstore. He moved with the quiet grace of turning pages, a murmur of forgotten stories on his lips, each motion was a measured movement of a lost count of time, an unknown song that seems so familiar in the wind. Nora, usually so vibrant, became muted in his presence, her words tumbling out in shy whispers yet rimmed with a golden light and warmth that only appeared in his presence.

Fresh Air on the Rio Grande
I'm from the East Coast and I've now moved to California. But in between I vowed to take some time and spend it in nature. With this goal in mind I found myself exploring the wilds of the Rio Grande National Forest during my trip out west.

That Childhood Crush
I cannot tell you how sad I was the day that the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced they would stop touring after Stadium Arcadium. I wasn't as sad as if my dog died, but I was pretty down about it. It had been a bucket list item for me to see RHCP live since I first saw Anthony Kiedis on screen with the release of the music video for "Otherside" on MTV. Out of the darkness your eyes are met with a figure in a black trench coat, with his bleach blonde hair accentuating a disheveled appearance as his soft dark eyes divert from the lens of the camera recording him as he sings.

A Predicament at Pearl’s Place
People are easy, more predictable the more chaotic they act. Take that guy over there for instance. This one leaning on the streetlamp post and smoking his cigarette. From the way he is dressed, to the place he is standing he wants you to think he is waiting for the bus. That bus does not come till 4:30PM, it is currently 3:47 and no one waits at a bus stop leaning on a lamppost. This guy is bored while he waits for a “client” to show up. He is dressed like a hipster met a LA version of a Harajuku street artist while he sips his Starbucks drink and acts preoccupied with his equally overpriced phone. He is dealing drugs. Heck, think about it a few seconds more and you can even tell what kind it is he is selling. Think longer about it, you will know what kind of client he is waiting on, how late they are, and how quickly this dealer will vacate the area after the deal is done. But it is not important. This person is just like thousands of others doing what they know to get by. This kid is just an example I am using to discuss how easy it is to analyze people.
