We Are Not Lazy Because We Are On Benefits
My life has not been easy. I struggled at school with bullying and school work with very little support available to me, and that continued into adulthood, where it interfered with my mental health, and my ability to find work.

The concrete bench had a cold, unfamiliar feel. Even though we had gathered at the “Jamaica Corner” at Miami Dade Community College for over a year and a half, trying to recreate the feel of home in Miami, everyone was tense. Barrington "Barry" Salmon (Yes, that Barrington Salmon) stared off into the distance. At the same time, Paul “Lurks” Fakhouri, who would later play a significant role in shaping the sound and impact of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, fidgeted with the pages of his textbook. There had been rumors, but we kept on holding to hope. No one wanted to believe that Bob could die. But news from everywhere kept pouring in, and it was hard to separate facts from su-su.

It’s Black History Month. “I don't even know what that means.” I took this previous sentence from a mostly white oriented film, Blades of Glory (2007) that made the phrase ever more popular in the culture. The phrase found its way on a hip hop song with the clean title, “In Paris” by Shawn “JAY Z” Carter and the artist formerly known as Kanye West, Ye.
Skyler SaundersPublished 3 months ago in The Swamp"Is Putin Dead?"
The Russian online public sphere has been buzzing with new rumors of Putin's death this week. On Tuesday, a rumor started to circulate that he had a heart attack and was in poor shape. And on Thursday (Oct.26, 2023) an anonymous "Russian Foreign Intelligence Service General" account on the Russian social media platform Telegram posted this:

Welcome to Country: As I write this piece, I wish to acknowledge the Wangal people of the Eora nation, traditional owners of the land, whose soverignty and connection was never ceded. I pay my respects and regrets to the elders; past, present and emerging.
Natasja RosePublished 7 months ago in The SwampThe Apocalypse Is Already Here (for some)
As Europeans started to make landfall in America, the apocalypse would soon begin. A disease killing upwards of 90% of the Indigenous population (estimated to be anywhere from hundreds of thousands to millions) would soon cause cities to crumble and empires to fall. According to one study published in the Quaternary Science Reviews:

“All life is precious.” – Governor Kristi Noem “I hated that dog.” – Governor Kristi Noem Next to holding a baby at a campaign rally, nothing does more to humanize a political candidate than a video of them frolicking with the family dog. The love of man’s best friend is bipartisan with dog owners “just as likely to come from either side of the political spectrum.” A Pew Research Center survey found that 97% of pet owners consider their pets part of their family.
Carl J. PetersenPublished about 8 hours ago in The SwampWhy Britain needs to retain its constitutional monarchy.
Why Britain needs to retain its constitutional monarchy. The British royal family under attack because it matters. In an ever-changing world, we all need some bedrock to stabilise ourselves, we need some form of baseline, a belief or feeling that we can use to compare all else against. We all unconsciously view everything, and form every opinion, by comparison to the baseline. It is almost always unconscious, but our unconsciousness is condition by experience, training, and conditioning. Sometimes there remains an “intuitive” understanding, one not based on actual remembered experience but from some much deeper understanding.
Peter RosePublished about 17 hours ago in The SwampNo, University Pro-Palestine Protests are NOT "This Generation's Vietnam"
The Pro-Palestine campus protests currently sweeping the Western World is far from the first time that students have united for a cause. From the Student Rebellion made famous by Les Miserables, to lesser-known riots in 19th Century England, to the Anti-Vietnam and BLM protests, Activism is as commonplace in universities as Frat Parties.
Natasja RosePublished a day ago in The SwampZelenskyy Cancels Trip.
President Zelensky had to cut short a trip to Portugal and Spain. Mr. Zelensky was believed to be signing a defence agreement with both countries. Mr. Zelensky, however, cancelled the trip when it became clear Russian forces were bearing down on the city of Kharkiv. Kharkiv is a major city in Ukraine just down the road from the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv Should Kharkiv fall to Russian forces that would put Ukraine in a dangerous position. Therefore, from Zelensky's point of view, while getting support from abroad is important, Zelensky must be mindful of the home front.
Nicholas BishopPublished a day ago in The SwampTwitter's Permenant Ban
See Affiliate Link Note at end of article Introduction It has been twenty months since Twitter/X permanently banned my account, and I'm still disappointed by the decision. I send an appeal about every four months just to see if they will reconsider. I think I will need to send a written letter to Elon Musk (and Linda Yaccarino, X Corp's CEO) as there doesn't appear to be an escalation process. Is the permanent ban part of the former "Stay Woke" or "Psychological Safety" culture Elon Musk references in the book by Walter Isaacson, Elon Musk? It is a great book if you need something to read.
