We spend much of our lives caring for those around us, be they our parents, spouses, children, or, for some, paw kids. With much of ourselves being heavily distributed, there isn't much left for ourselves to enjoy.

Hence, there is an imperative need for self-care and compassion. We have to put ourselves first without putting others last—a delicate balance.

The starfish, known for its ability to rebuild its lost limbs, rebounds with the aid of self-care. It doesn't engage in negative self-talk. This lovely marine creature will set boundaries when necessary and grow its injured arms with the aid of a little forgiveness.

Enjoy these Haikus.

The injured starfish

With its arms cut off and worn,

Regrows them with strength.

Determined starfish

Arms far away from its mouth,

Does not criticize itself.

A Pisces alone,

Draws fine lines across the sand

Creature poised to heal

Rebounding starfish

Stunted arms will grow and move

Regrows and forgives.
