"Ever want to just forget it all and just stand and gaze...gaze in wonder at the unbridled majesty on display for all of us to see for free?" she punctured the steady and easy silence with a wistful quality to her question. "We share that same longing, you know. The longing to leave this city behind. For the city, in all its manufactured glory, achievement and advancement, does not offer the best location, the best setting to stare up into the great unknown and bask in the uncertainty and wild opportunity it offers. Neither is it the best place to experience the celestial dance of an eclipse. All that smoke and the heaven-piercing structures and environmental destruction cuts through the inspiration and overshadows the awe." I replied, reassuringly stroking her cheek and smiling warmly into her eyes.

"Come with me" I said, with a knowing but tentative hope in my heart and soul. "Come with me, please my dear, out of the red and brown, the concrete and brick, the silver and glass blockades of the city we adore. For on the brightest of days, the clearest of skies offers the most indulgent sense of clarity. A chance for remembrance of our place in the larger scheme of things. We will never be able to deeply appreciate the majesty, the wonder and the awe-inspiring power here within the city. Not in the same way, at least." I lamented as we clasped our hands together, gently exchanging electrical charges through the soft epidermis of our skin.

"Let's leave then behind this city, mighty as it is, for a day or more and head out to the coast away from it all...so we can enjoy some unobstructed peace...so we can enjoy just being." she replied with sombre overtones, passion and longing, oh the longing, in every word. The longing for the full view of the sun and the moon, of the breath of fresh sea air in our lungs.

"I don't think there is anything better than spending the time we have together than looking out to the sea and watching how it embraces the land and the beach and the coast, as we embrace" I whispered as our hands remained locked and we drew each other into our warmth. Our breaths wavered as my fingers traced the fine lines of her palm.

"People don't really do it enough...do they? Stop to look up, stop to gaze at the wonder and majesty...I don't want to be like other people...I don't want that for us..." she murmured as she nestled her face into my neck beneath my beard. "We will never be like other people...those people...we will never let that happen!" I assured her as I gently draped my arm over her shoulders and twirled her light blonde tresses.

"Sometimes I worry about that...worry that we will lose this passion...this zest. That our passion and zest will be eclipsed by the mundanity and perfunctory. there is so much going on in the world these days...so much noise...so much...that can rob us off the time we need. The time we need to embrace the release of the world staring down at us, when the moon meets the sun, all eyes will be up there, though, but only momentarily." she whispered with sadness shadowing her otherwise positive and hopeful tone. "Once the moon and sun separate again, everyone will continue...will continue...and nothing will really change." she continued, as my hands continue to stroke through her hair, hoping to ease the heaviness burdening her shoulders, mind and soul.

"Eclipses come and go..." I agreed with an elevated softness, as we both sighed and snuggled closely, "but our love for one another and the world around us, will surely endure for all time".

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Had an idea to have like a conversation between two people about eclipses, inner-city life making it hard to take advantage of seeing an eclipse, or stargazing in general and just to have a romantic feel to it.

Despite not being overly sensitive nor sentimental… I loved this story/poem. A wonderful blend of celebrating the majesty of creation and renewal of love.✅
