The narrator, Becky, moves into her fully furnished apartment, which she describes as her American Dream. Her friends Anne and Joe help her move, and they see her on the balcony. They are amazed by the city and the living space. Becky is relieved to see the people and the bustling streets, but she is slightly nervous about carrying boxes.

When they return to the apartment, they find a man in a suit watching TV with a stock ticker and a news anchor. She asks him to help her, but he is gone. She tries to open the door but finds no one there. Joe, who is exhausted, suggests that she might be seeing things. Becky reassures him that she will be okay, but she hasn't eaten today.

After waking up, she finds the kitchen crate in Sharpie and drinks wine on the balcony. The night is clear, and the moon shines back a luminous white. The balcony is large enough for a table, chairs, and a place to grow vegetables. A sound deafens her, and she squeals and crunches her eyes shut. She hears a metal object chipping the concrete next to her, and she is shocked. She looks up to see a man peering over some scaffolding, apologizes, and explains that accidents happen.

The building superintendent, David Watson, apologizes for the damage and promises to take necessary action. He promises to repair any damage free of charge and promises to enjoy her time here. Becky is relieved to hear that she wasn't hurt and that she was not allowed to enter her apartment earlier. She also learns that she is not allowed to enter without prior permission, unless there's an emergency.

She replaces the phone and stares at the TV, thinking about the man she saw. The wine bottle is half full, and she feels sleepy. She retunes it to the fridge and goes to bed.

As the sound of voices wakes her up, she panics at first. She is not used to living with shared walls and is initially scared. She hears a voice talking, and she realizes that it's a TV with the volume too low to hear. She is unsure if she should wear a suit, but she decides to go ahead.

In summary, the narrator's new apartment is filled with excitement and fear, as she navigates the unfamiliar environment. The story highlights the challenges faced by those new to the city and the importance of safety and security.

Jenny wakes up to find her apartment empty, but the noise from the television causes her to jump. She finds a man in a suit who has been beaten and stabbed, and she calls an ambulance. The police arrive and tell her that the man jumped, and they call an ambulance.

A man in his fifties, David, arrives to help Jenny. He recognizes her and apologizes for the incident. He then falls over the edge of the balcony, saying he loves her and jumped. The superintendent checks on her, but she doesn't feel comfortable sitting there anymore.

The superintendent asks if she was 100% sure about the fall, but she doesn't think so. He picks up the metal part and offers to fix the floor. Jenny doesn't sleep much the rest of the night, and she is asked to shadow a guy called Jesse for the day. She writes her first piece, which Jesse finds impressive for someone who hasn't slept in years.

Jesse suggests that the city can be a bit of a change for some people, and it may take some time to get used to the 24-hour noise. Jenny thanks him and leaves, contemplating going back to work.

In summary, Jenny's experience with a traumatic event and the challenges she faces in her new life are highlighted in this text.

I've been seeing ghosts my entire life. In the past, a few were threatening but since I moved, thankfully, only the good ones followed me. the dangerous ones attached themselves to my old house while the good ones attached themselves to me. Interesting story.
