Uriah's Honor

A Sonnet

I am a richly blessed and lucky man

Bathsheba gladdens every seeing eye

And she is mine alone; our love began

When she favored me with a smile most sly

As others squandered time with loud boasting

Or venomous gossip and silly lies;

She saw my mind was on a sweeter thing:

Imagining the sound of her glad cries

Which I would hear, to my astonishment

As one of King David’s stout retinue

Her husband and his soldier: I was blent

Of both these parts, and happy through and through

He bids me now to wade back into war

I will obey, for none I honor more

Bathsheba reminded me of the ghost from The Conjuring hehehe. Loved your poem!

    Heavy, tragic, and gorgeously written.

  • Amazing. The tragedy and travesty of Uriah's story is heightened by your deft subtlety.

  • Again you are great!

There seems to be an ancient history theme going on today. Maybe I'll give it a try later on.
