Artificial Intelligence (AI) On LinkedIn

Something Extremely Interesting That I've Been Noticing With Wonder About How It Will Impact Other Platforms

EVERYONE these days is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Some people talk about it like it will completely change the face of the Future.

Others think it will be the Bane of Society and Creativity.

I tend to sit somewhere in the middle.

I think it has interesting and potentially beneficial uses, but in general, I believe it is completely overhyped.

I have written some interesting Articles from my findings on AI.

I talked about how AI can, and probably should, replace the role of CEO.

I know that may "sound" like I'm saying AI is Impressive, but it's not.

That article is about how little Value most CEOs provide their Organizations, and how sad it is that CEOs can be EASILY replaced by AI.

I've also talked about how AI will dominate the Leadership Development Industry.

If you believe that makes me scared since I regularly write about Leadership, here's the Reality - It doesn't, and shouldn't make you scared either.

It is an Article about how "Leadership Development" is an Echo Change of Failure which AI can easily re-create.

However, this Problem of Leadership Development is part of why I stopped doing Leadership Development with my clients years ago.

All of this is to say that I haven't found AI to be Impressive in what it can do.

Now, what does this have to do with LinkedIn?

I have noticed something EXTREMELY INTERESTING when it comes to Articles I have written on LinkedIn.

Every time I post about AI, as well as some other Hot Topics that seem to do well there, I also see a fascinating INFLUX of Comments.

Now, "traditionally" on Social Media people LOVE getting lots of Comments on their work - it helps drive the Algorithms for Impressions and all those fun Marketing terms.

In that sense it's Good.

But that isn't what is "interesting" about the influx of Comments.

Let's take my article, "The Role Of CEO Is Dead - Understanding The Future Of Leadership, AI, And Work"

Now, the article itself isn't a "Positive" discussion around AI or CEOs, but rather a "Negative" discussion around the current Failing Role of CEO, and how we need to rethink how Organizations are run for the Future.

However, here are a few of the "responses" I received on LinkedIn.

  • "Exciting insights on the future of leadership and AI, can't wait to learn more."
  • "Exploring the evolution of leadership and AI in the workplace sounds fascinating! πŸš€"
  • "Excited to explore the future of leadership in the ever-evolving landscape! πŸš€"
  • "Exciting insights on the future of leadership! Can't wait to delve into it."
  • "The future of leadership is evolving rapidly. Exciting times ahead! πŸš€"

Do you notice anything interesting about this?

They all sound... exactly the same.

There is a lot of "Excitement".

Quite a few Rocketships that are intended to Indicate the "Future".

It's also fascinating how none of the comments seem to have ANY Realization about the Tone of the Article itself.

It is EXTREMELY apparent that these commenters didn't read the Article at all, and that they utilized AI to help them Comment.

This isn't the only Article where I have seen this phenomenon on LinkedIn either.

What we are witnessing is the loss of True Engagement.

In the Long Run, this will be extremely Detrimental to Social Media, in a world that is already so filled with Hypocrisy and Disingenuous "Engagement".

What it will do is push Content on platforms not based on the Quality of the work, but based on hitting the correct "Keywords" that the AI is looking for already.

If you hit the Right Keyword, you'll get great Engagement on the Platform.

Now, a Good-Hearted individual may see this as a way to Hopefully get their Content seen by Real People by Gamifying the AI's Algorithms to their Benefit.

I have no Problem with People doing that, if you're reading this right now and want to do it, go for it!

However, the BIGGER Problem is when you combine AI pushing Engagement with people mass producing Mediocre AI Content and ALSO abusing the AI Disingenous Engagement to their Benefit.

It will simply make Social Media Platforms a Landfill of AI Junk where True Creators go to Perish.

This has been a Fear with the Internet as a whole, with some Experts claiming that AI Junk has ALREADY Surpassed Human-Made Content.

So, I want to have a little bit of Fun while also doing an Experiment.

BUT if you are Reading this, PLEASE make sure to follow the Rules I set!

We don't need to make this Toxic, and the Rules will allow us to have a nice "Inside Joke" only at the Expense of AI.

So, in theory, the AI Focus of this article "should" trigger the AI Commenters given what I have seen.

The AI Commenters will likely say something like how, "Indeed AI on LinkedIn is Interesting!"

RULE: If you see that, feel free to do a "laughing" reaction to it, but do NOT comment anything mean to the Person "behind" the AI Commenter.

We are NOT here to make enemies, but to reveal a Flaw in the System, and hopefully, the HUMAN behind the AI commenter will come to see the Flaw.

We should NOT be attacking HUMANS, ever, and if I see it in the Comments of my Articles I will report you immediately and call you out.

The vast majority of Humans in the world are Good in their Hearts, though sometimes misguided by a variety of factors - MYSELF included.

Let's Honor what is GOOD about HUMANS by Not Degrading Ourselves.

Now, to make this Experiment even MORE Fun, I want you to ALSO Comment something VERY specific.

RULE: Your Comment should start with a Color that you HATE followed by an Animal you LOVE - I will demonstrate it myself first.

If you want to write a Genuine Comment AFTER the Hated-Color Loved-Animal beginning, by all means!

I actually LOVE Engaging with Humans like You, so tell me what you Love, Hate, Enjoy, or Fear - even if it is something Negative about my work!

If you also just want to tell me why you hate that color or love that animal, that is great as well!

So, if you want to join me on this Fun Experiment, then I have laid out all the Rules!

I'm also VERY curious if the AI Commenters will adapt if people start throwing random colors and animals into the comments.

Will they Adapt?

Will it Screw with their Algorithms?

Or will they just be Oblivious to it?

Only one way to find out!

BONUS: If you want to HELP with the Fun Experiment and see how it plays out, SHARE this with your Network, and let's see how far we can go!

Let's just say that if we can push the Experiment far enough, we could get some FASCINATING Insights.

Also, if You are Reading this, but DON'T want to participate in the Experiment, that is ok too!

I DO want to thank you for ACTUALLY Reading.

Truly, it means a Tremendous amount that you take the time to Read in a world where so few people do it anymore.

Here's to the HUMANS that make the World Amazing!

Pink echidna. AI being the death of social media isn't a horrifying concept to me. It's like a wasp landing on a nettle. Someone's gonna get stung, and it doesn't fuss me which.
