The house, built in the 1600s, had been on the market for over a year and was haunted by rumors of unseen spirits and lost souls trapped between worlds. The owner reduced the price, but the narrator convinced Priscilla to stay in town. The house's colonial architecture contrasted with the wilderness, and the owl, an owl, seemed to be a guardian, a lookout like the house itself.

The narrator vowed to uncover the truth as he lit a lantern, announcing that the past would resurface when least expected. As the news of his inherited small fortune sank in, the narrator felt the weight of possibility settling on his shoulders. The creaking stairs echoed through the empty halls, hinting at concealed secrets and a sense of loneliness.

The first task was simple: repair the leaky roof. As he climbed the ladder, he heard whispers carried by the wind, possibly from the ghosts of previous owners. They urged him to listen and understand that this house was more than wood and nails; it was a vessel for stories and a keeper of secrets. The muffled sounds prompted his exploration of every part of the house, discovering untold secrets to share with him.

Inside the rooms awaited transformation, with faded velvet curtains, scars from countless meals shared by families, and treasures and tragedies in the attic. A relic of forgotten artists, an oil-on-canvas enigma, hung, with eyes that bore into his soul, dissecting his sins and secrets. A blurred woman stared out from the canvas, holding him captive a portal to another realm.

Evelyn, the phantom muse, declared, "You're not alone." She pleaded with the narrator to tell her what she guarded, and the eyes shifted, focusing downward. Evelyn's laughter filled the corridor, urging him to find the truth.

The creaking stairs were his companions during exploration, revealing more layers of peeling wallpaper, cracked mirrors, and worn floorboards. He honored, respected, and pledged to rejuvenate the house, feeling a sense of belonging to the lonely house. Days blurred into weeks, and the old mansion became his sole companion.

The protagonist, Evelyn, is haunted by a mysterious secret that haunts her dreams. She wanders through the dark, eerie basement, where she discovers a hidden pathway beneath a large workbench. The ghost's hand disappears into the darkness, carrying an air of intrigue and secrets yet to be discovered.

The old bench holds countless memories, and the floor's scars hold untold stories of shufflings, rearrangements, and hidden intentions. As she moves the bench, she encounters a worn handle hidden beneath a layer of dust, revealing a cavity waiting to be explored. A ladder, creaking softly as she descends, seems to lead to another world waiting to be discovered.

As she descends, she sees a faint light below, a portal to realms beyond. A beam of light illuminates a hidden tunnel that seems to defy all conventional plans and official records. The tunnel stretched ahead, its walls rough-hewn and damp, and the air tasted of earth and anticipation.

The protagonist wonders about the purpose of the tunnel and whether it was built with purpose or desperation. The forms she signed excluded this hidden world, and the agent's smile concealed the truth. The ghost orchestrated this revelation, or the house had shared its secrets with her so she could share them with her.

Lost in time, the protagonist contemplates the mansion above, wondering if Priscilla will notice her or follow the same path out of curiosity or concern. As the tunnel's end approaches, she emerges into a cavern, a forgotten chamber filled with artifacts and a map.
