The Journey Begins

I’ve been creating online for the last three years, and if there’s one thing I enjoy about the process, it’s the people I get to interact with every day. The comments that said I helped them break through X, the ones that said I helped them make Y amount of money, and people who took the time to respond to my emails when I sent them out, are the highlights of my journey.

The Early Struggles

My goal when I started creating content online was to quit my job. I wanted to have more time to travel, to spend with family, to do nothing, to give back to the people around me — the less fortunate. You need money to do these things. I persevered, and I was going to make it happen no matter what.

The early days were rough. Every video I published felt like I was throwing a pebble into the vast ocean — it hardly made any ripple — but who cares? My ‘why’ was much stronger. I hated my job to bits; I just needed something else to take its place, and my content creator career would be it.

The Breakthrough

A few months in, I started to see some light. On the day I quit my job, one of my videos had a spike. What happened? Did someone share my content on Reddit? Or was it Quora? I wasn’t sure, but it was the nudge I needed. I had to keep going.

Fast forward a few months, I stumbled on an idea. I got home from my sales job, turned on my computer, and recorded my screen while narrating what I was doing. I uploaded it and hit publish. The next day, I saw that video starting to take off, and then 5, 10, 15, and 20 subscribers a day over the next few days. My channel was taking off. It felt good. I felt proud.

Digital Mastery: A Community of Learning

Over the last 18 months, I’ve honed in on teaching people how to create a brand online that can be monetized, just like I did in my early days on YouTube, by leveraging their existing knowledge and skill in service of others.

So, what’s the membership all about, and how is it the best thing I’ll do over the next few years? I started a new YouTube channel just to teach what I know about online monetization, and since launch, the channel has grown to over 2,300 subscribers, 108,000 views at the time of writing this, and is responsible for over 1,000 email subscribers.

The Rewarding Journey

The membership hasn’t grown a lot, but that’s fine. Slow growth is better than no growth at all. We had our weekly call this morning, and after the call, I was proud of myself. The knowledge I shared on the call was well received. I may have inspired someone from the response I got.

Having to show up every day for my members having a certain level of quality expected of me each time and being able to deliver on it so far — it has been amazing. Apart from the possibility of earning a fixed recurring income from having a membership (which is great, by the way), it’s also a rewarding thing to do — pushing people to execute, helping them accomplish their goals, make more money, and spend time with their kids.

Every Wednesday, I look forward to our calls, to see how much progress they’ve made, and how much more possibility I can help them unlock. I feel grateful, I feel blessed, and I can’t wait to keep doing this.

Join the Journey

My membership is called Digital Mastery, and you can check it out here (no pressure to sign up). I’m always open to feedback, and I take them very seriously. If you’re into travel and want to hear about people building businesses as digital nomads, check out my Podcast — Nomad Entrepreneur. I think you’ll love it.

That’s it from me. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Cheers!
