On June 1, 2004, an 11-year-old girl takes her friend to an empty classroom during school lunch break. There, she tells her friend that "You are going to die," and then she takes out a box cutter from her pocket and slits her throat. Not only that, but after this crime, she becomes an internet celebrity. This is the story of Japan's most shocking murder,

"The Nevada Tan."

Natsumi Tsuji was an 11-year-old Japanese girl who lived in Sabo Nagasaki, where she attended Okubo Elementary High School. She was not an ordinary girl, with an extraordinary intellect; her IQ was 143, and she mostly immersed herself in her hobbies like reading, drawing manga, and writing poetry. Natsumi enjoy playing basketball in school much, and all her attention shifted from classes to basketball, causing her grades to drop. Natsumi's mom didn't like this at all, so she forcefully removed Natsumi from the basketball team to shift her focus back to her studies.

Understandably, Natsumi became very upset about this and started talking much less to her mom and her friends. One would assume that because of Natsumi's mom's step, her grades would start improving in school, but it was exactly the opposite. Natsumi's grades continued to suffer, and even worsened. Natsumi began to spend most of her time in her room, surfing the internet. She gained interest in dark media, anime, and scary movies, which were not appropriate.

She was interested in Battle royale books in which a group of students are trapped on an island, and they fight to the death there is only One survivor who gets to leave the island, was obsessed with all these things so much that she even created her website featuring extreme violence, violent hand-tied features, blood, and gore, and much more scary and disturbing content.

Somi was really into dark and disturbing stuff, which must have affected her brain, and sadly, so did Natsumi was. Going to find out in 2004 when people couldn't message on social media, they used messaging boards to text with their friends outside of school. It was a sophisticated age, social media texting, but it got the job done. Dan Satomi, who was Natsumi's friend, one day insulted Natsumi on one such messaging board. She called her fat and pretentious. Natsumi couldn't bear this insult at all, and she asked for an apology but Satomi refused.

On June 1, 2004, Natsumi and Satomi both attended their classes, and everything was going normally. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But during lunch break when all the students were having their lunch, Natsumi took Satomi to an empty classroom, saying that she has brought a new game she wants to show her. Once inside the class, she made Satomi sit on a chair and told her that she's going to die. Satomi thought it was a joke, but then suddenly, Natsumi took out a box cutter from her pocket and slit Satomi's throat. Satomi started bleeding everywhere, but even after this, Natsumi didn't stop. She made multiple stabs on Satomi's arms with the box cutter, and then she just sat in the class, and she watched her friend to bleed.

Even though she kicked her in the head to make sure that she is actually dead, Natsumi still had the box cutter in her hand, and her clothes were completely soaked with blood. Despite this condition, she casually went back and sat in the class. Everyone was shocked to see her like this, and teachers thought that maybe Natsumi got hurt. But soon, the real-life blood, after finding Satomi's body in another class, immediately called the police, who arrived within minutes and were shocked to see the crime scene. It was not that there were no murders in Japan, but for an 11-year-old girl to do all this was something else. When police entered the classroom, they saw Satomi lying on the blood-filled floor. She was showing no signs of life. The school immediately called Satomi's father, who was a widower and was raising his three children alone. It's so depressing that after already losing his wife, he received such news from the school. I mean, imagine how miserable it was for him.

Natsumi Tsuji had already confessed her crime on that spot. She told the police that she had done a very bad thing, and she kept saying sorry again and again. The police arrested her and took her to the reported station. When Natsumi arrived at the reported station, she was completely shut down. She refused to say anything and didn't eat anything. This thing was very frustrating for the officers because they wanted to know why she committed this murder. Natsumi spent that night in the police station, where she was heard crying many times, and in the morning, she finally accepted some food and told the police why she committed this crime. By this time, all the media had covered this case, and the case spread like wildfire, and people demanded justice for Satomi. Natsumi's hearing and her sentence were highly controversial and hotly debated.

Some people argued that she should be institutionalized, while others said she should be tried as an adult because of the severity of the crime. In the original sentencing in 2006, she was sentenced to two years in an institution in Tokyo's Pre-Fecture. In her 2006 hearing, this sentence was increased by two years. In October 2005, when Natsumi was in the institution, it was the graduation ceremony at the school of Natsumi and Satomi. The school principal provided graduation certificates to both of them. This was highly controversial because many people felt that Natsumi should not have received her graduation certificate. But the school had orders from the court, which wanted Natsumi to have a full chance to reintegrate into society in the future.

This case was already so dark and twisted, but after the murder, something happened that was beyond shocking. At that time, the public didn't know Natsumi's real name, but her photo started circulating on the internet, where she was wearing a University of Nevada sweatshirt. So people started calling Natsumi "Nevada Tan" on the entire internet.

There were also some who claimed that Natsumi was wearing the University of Nevada sweatshirt even at the time of the murder. People had turned Natsumi into a whole character. They were creating comics where she was hurting other cartoon characters, and many people enjoyed it in the classic Japanese style of comics.

The story is about Natsumi, who became involved in a murder case at a young age. Her actions, including wearing a University of Nevada sweatshirt during the murder, turned her into a curious internet icon. People were creating comics about her, romanticizing the crime. While it's one thing to make a dark joke, it's disturbing how teenagers on the internet are romanticizing criminals. Natsumi was released from the institution in 2008 and her family relocated to a new undisclosed location in 2013. So, she can live as a free girl with a new identity.
