Did you know that everyone has a different shape to their face? There are six face shapes - oval, rectangle, round, square, heart, and diamond. With an accurate analysis, you can figure out what the shape of your face is.

Why would you want to know your face shape?

Because there are certain hairstyles and accessories that look best with each face shape. If you want to bring out the best version of yourself, you're in the right place. This article details the features of an oval-shaped face.

Think you have an oval face shape? First, read the Vocal article, "How to Determine Your Face Shape" for the three steps you can take to know for sure.

Once you have determined that your face shape is oval, read on to learn which hairstyles and accessories are most flattering. Below you can review the traits of an oval face shape.

Hairstyles For Oval Faces

With an oval face shape, you can wear just about any hairstyle. This face shape has just enough length and width, so almost anything goes. However, try not to go too long with your hair, as that can make the face appear longer. Something mid-length or above the shoulders is ideal.

You can create more width by wearing bangs that cover your forehead. Styles that are not super straight (layers, curls, loose waves) also add dimension and help the face look more balanced.

Glasses For Oval Faces

Many people consider oval faces to be the ideal shape because they have the most balanced proportions. The most important thing when looking for glasses is to try not to take away from the natural balance of your features.

Choose frames that are as wide or slightly wider than the broadest part of your face. Frames that are top-heavy will also help give the illusion of more width. This goes for both eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Hats For Oval Faces

If you have an oval face shape, a beanie at the top of your hairline is not very flattering because it exposes your entire face and elongates it. Instead, go for hats that create width rather than length.

For example, a floppy hat with a deep crown will create a horizontal angle to your face, making it look less elongated. Hats that hit across your forehead, such as a beret, also reduce the length of your face.

Jewelry For Oval Faces

Oval faces are able to wear almost any style of earring or necklace. Try not to choose pieces that elongate the face too much, but have fun with different shapes, lengths, and styles!

Embellishments and vibrant colors are a great way to add a dose of fun. Chunky/bulky elements distract from the length of the face and also create a more dimensional look.

Oval Face Shape Review

An oval face shape is well-balanced, making it relatively easy to wear any hairstyle or jewelry. Go long or short with both, keeping in mind not to elongate the face too much.

Adding width to an oval face helps keep it looking proportionate. You can do this by adding bangs or wearing less dangly pieces of jewelry (think big stud earrings). Chokers instead of long necklaces are also a great choice.
